Frederick I. „Barbarossa“ was one of the most important rulers of medieval Germany. After 35 years of reign he joined the Third Crusade to liberate Jerusalem. On the way there he died on June 10, 1190 in the river Göksu. The exact causes of death are unknown. A popular theory is that to escape the intense heat, the emperor jumped into the river wearing his full armor and drowned.
